Crane, elevator, and stationary engineer license applications and renewals now online

As of June 1, 2022, all new applications for these license types must be submitted through the portal. Other types of trade licenses will be moved to this portal in the future.

Existing License Holders

Existing license holders will by mailed instructions for claiming their existing license during the summer of 2022. Mailed notices will be sent in batches between June and September based on license expiration date.

If you have an existing crane, elevator, or stationary engineer license, you may create an account on the portal and claim your license.

With an online account, you may update the email and mailing addresses associated with your account, check your expiration date, pay fees, and print your license certificate through the portal.

Active licenses are available for renewal beginning 90 days prior to the expiration date. Expired licenses may be reinstated up to 3 years after expiration for cranes and stationary engineers and up to 2 years after expiration for elevators.

New Applicants

If you are starting a new application, please create an account and begin an application. Note: for elevator mechanic contractor licenses, you must first request that a company be created and associated with your individual account.

Continental Testing Services (CTS) supports the city in processing trade license applications and administering trade license examinations. If you have started an application online or have an existing license, you may contact CTS for support Monday though Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 1-800-359-1313.
